A lack of sleep and the fact his ear was infected made the coroner a horrible person to be around lately. Screaming, crying, and taking the day off wasn't an option, so he had to suck it up and pretend everything was peachy. Deacon bit his lip, tugging on his ear in an identical manner to his daughter as he walked to the staff room. He'd told Jordan to meet him there with the new x-rays from Colton, but he had no idea if the boy was there or not.
'I hate my fucking job. I hate my fucking job. I don't wanna be here.' He thought bitterly, pushing open the door to the staff room. He walked over to a chair and sat down, putting his head on his knees.

Jordan hadn't spent much time in the staff lounge before. But he had needed more work hours for credit in anything that wouldn't require hurting others. So he had agreed to help the croner again and was waiting for Colton's doctor to print xrays. He stared at the male on the respirator, frowning, then took the xrays with a mumbled thanks and left.
Reaching the staff room however, Deacon's emotions washed through him and he swallowed before opening the door. "Ehm...Deacon..?" He whispered softly, a hand touching the coroner's shoulder. Baby blue eyes flickered uncertainly.

Deacon jumped as the boy put a hand on his shoulder. He was always afraid it was someone there to hurt him, like his mother. He guessed that was something no one got used to. He tugged on his ear again, near tears. He knew that the boy could feel emotions, but some things he couldn't bottle up for the sake of others. His ear hurt. "You got the scans?" He asked, putting his feet on the floor. It was odd, sitting like this. So he pulled a knee back into the chair with him.

Jordan frowned at that brief pang of fear, the pain and frustration rolling off of Deacon in waves. "Yes..." He whispered softly, grabbing another chair and pulling it over to sit down next to the coroner hesitantly. Deacon wasn't the only one that was still jumpy when it came to sudden touch. "You should take a day off.." He murmured, accent thick with how mumbled his words were. He offered a shy smile, then lowered baby blue eyes to the xrays in his hands.

"When my brothers gods add another day to the week, then I can afford a day off." Deacon said quietly. He took the scans from him, looking over them slowly. He sighed and got to his feet, walking over to the coffee maker to get a mug of coffee. He walked back a moment later, taking his chair again. "I shouldve been a detective."

Jordan bit his lip, but just nodded as he watched him get up to get coffee. He drew his hands back the moment the sheets were taken, and looked down into his lap quietly while Deacon looked them over. He wasn't sure if he was needed for anything else, so he decided to wait and see, reaching to play with a string on his jeans before rolling it between his fingers and letting it be again.

Deacon sipped his coffee as he looked over the x-rays. He couldn't understand how they were supposed to fix this. He tugged at his ear again, sitting the scans down. "You up for a trip to the library?" He asked, getting to his feet. He fixed his skinny jeans, then leaned down for the scans again.

"Sure.." Jordan murmured. He stood up, eyeing the cough syrup sitting on the counter. But he didn't dare snatch it and risk getting in trouble, losing his chance at earning credits. He brushes his hair out of his face and wandered to the door, holding it open quietly for Deacon.

Deacon followed him quietly, sure he was gonna start crying any minute now. He couldn't remember the last time he had an ear infection, and this was utterly miserable. He walked out the door, mumbling a thanks. He always felt awful knowing Jordan can feel what he felt. And often, he tried to be happy. But sometimes, it wasn't easy. "Ill buy you coffee after." He offered.

Jordan nodded, walking woth him. He felt bad that Deacon was hurting so bad. "You don't have to.." He insisted softly, walking down the halltowards the exit. He couldn't remember how long he had been here anymore, had already gotten to the likes of some of the staff thankfully.

"I don't mind. This staff coffee tastes like baby food." Deacon said quietly. He'd been thinking about babies lately, maybe giving Bandit a little sibling. But he doubted he would ever get that chance. Not unless he really managed to be straight. "Doughnuts sound good too."

Jordan smiled the faintest bit as he looked at him, starting across the grounds towards the library slowly. He waved at Lacey and his sister when they passed, Lacey clearly nervous, guilty. Jordan didn't say anything about it though as he continued.

Deacon glanced over at the girl, then looked away. He sipped his coffee, his green eyes watching everyone walk past. But he didn't care much about any of them. He wanted his baby back. He opened the door to the library, letting the boy in first before he followed him in. "You got paper on you?" He asked quietly, clearly pained by his ear.

Jordan kept his head down as he wandered into the library, not liking how down in the ditches Deacon was. It was bothersome. "Ehm.." He grabbed a small notebookfrom his back pocket, taking a pen from the check out counter. Handing them over, he looked down obediently again.

Deacon took the note pad and pen from him, then reached over to gently tip his chin back. "Look up." He said quietly. He made his way to the back where the nonfiction books were kept. He pulled one down on humans and another down on fish, then brought them over to a table. He opened up one, then the other before he started taking notes of the differences between the two.
